Non-Algorithmic Human Interactions

Non-Algorithmic Human Interactions is a set of 12 character pieces for solo guitar that I began writing during quarantine, in which my interactions with people outside of my immediate family were only possible through the intervention of software. I suppose I’m vaguely thankful that video calls and social media are a thing, but even well-intentioned algorithms are a poor substitute for the warmth of human interaction. I recently recorded two movements from the cycle, "What I Wish I Said," is the opening prelude for the set, and “The Promise of Something New” is the final movement from this collection, and it imagines a time in the not-too-distant future when we can again interact outside of the algorithm.
